Student Service Council News ~ May 2017

Last Month’s Week of Reading was a huge success! We collected 1,739 books for Read to Grow and
that was a record for us. Thank you to everyone who donated books for children in Connecticut. We
read with our buddy classes and brought in dollars to wear pajamas and slippers and bring stuffed
animals. We raised about $700 for our own Media Center and Ms. Cassidy has already ordered so
many new books requested by our students.
Last week the Council sponsored Earth Week. We spent the week recycling, creating a paper tree
with suggestions for helping the earth, and making fun planter people with grass seeds. Many of us
got outside for some teaching and also learned with the lights off in our classrooms to save energy.
We helped plan for the JDRF walk which will be this week; we hope to raise a lot of money for
diabetes research.
We will have one or two more meetings and possibly plan one more Fun Friday event. It has been a
great year at Tashua!
