Student Service Council News ~ April 2017

Our “Leap into a Good Book” week last month was a huge success. Thank you to all of you who donated books and supported
Bedtime Stories Day with your donations. Student Service Council members stayed after school and counted the donated
books each day. We collected over, 1700 books for Read to Grow Connecticut! They are so appreciative of our efforts. Council
members also collected and counted the money we raised which totaled $699. Ms. Cassidy has already used this to purchase
new books for our own media center.
This month, the Student Service Council is hard at work getting ready for Earth Week which begins on Monday, April 18th. We
have a full week of earth-friendly activities planned including bringing trash-free snacks, keeping classroom lights off when
possible and making some time to learn outdoors so we can enjoy our earth. We will also have our paper tree bulletin board
where students can share ways that they help the earth.
Lastly, we are planning some other fun activities including Team Spirit Day on Monday, April 4th. Students are encouraged to
wear the colors of their favorite major league baseball teams to celebrate opening day. Next month the Student Service Council
will assist with our annual Tashua walk to raise money for diabetes (JDRF). We are hard at work!
