The Counselor Corner ~ October 2018

Welcome back! Transitioning back to school can be challenging and exhausting for both children and parents. Your children are working very hard each day at school so when they get home, they may need time to unwind and relax. When children are overly exhausted, it can sometimes cause a spike in their behavior. You may find yourself reminding them a million times to do simple things. Here are school, when we want children to show active and engaged listening, we refer to Whole Body Listening Larry! Try using phrases that are specific to how you want them to listen.

Examples:
I love when you show me you are listening with your eyes, by looking at me when I speak.
Your calm, quiet hands and feet show me you are listening.
I would love for you to show me you are listening by having a quiet mouth while I speak.
Please turn your body to face me, to show you are listening
