Student Service Council News – February 2016

The Tashua Student Service Council met last week to reflect on our Holiday Helpers program as well
as the Winter Solstice day. Both went very well! We began planning for one of our favorite events –
the week of reading in early March. Dr. Seuss’s birthday is on Wednesday, March 2nd so we will begin
our reading week on Monday, February 29th. Of course there was great excitement that this is a Leap
year so we will plan some events related to frogs or kangaroos – animals who leap! We will get
together with buddy classes and collect money from students who opt to wear pajamas and slippers
and bring a stuffed animal. This money will be used to buy books for our Tashua library. Council
representatives and alternates will also organize our new and gently used book drive that week.
Students will count books and donate them to Read to Grow Connecticut. Tashua School has become
their biggest contributor and we are proud of that. We will also be assisting with the walk for JDRF
and Earth week this spring. The Service Council is doing great work!
