Quality time with the Kids

As the weather finally starts to warm up, it gives us the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with our kids.
Want to know how your child’s day was? What are they playing these days at recess? Or even what they think
about SBAC testing? Well, instead of asking the same old questions, and getting the same old responses, using
the weather as an excuse to get out of the house can help initiate those conversations. Try saying, “Let’s for a
walk,” or “How about game of catch, kickball or tag.” As you play, ask open ended questions that stimulate
natural and fluid conversations. Using sports, humor and games is a great way to increase communication and
build strong relationships.

Instead of saying;  Try saying:
How was school? What’s the biggest difference between this year and last year?
Did you have fun at school?
What was the best thing you did at school?
Who did you sit with?
Tell me the names of the four kids who sat closest to you.
Did you play with anyone What were most kids doing at recess?
at recess? What was the best game at recess?
How was lunch? Who sat near you at lunch?
What were the other kids eating for lunch?
What was the funniest thing someone said at lunch?
See you outside!
