MATHEMATICS — MRS. MICHELLE MARINI~ June 2018

Summer is upon us and the children are certainly looking forward to vacation! We all know the importance of having our children continue to read over the summer to maintain their reading skills. The same can be said for math.
The following is the expected end of year fluency for each grade level:
* Kindergarten: Addition and Subtraction facts to 5
* First Grade: Addition and Subtraction facts to 10
* Second Grade: Addition and Subtraction facts to 20
* Third Grade: Multiplication and Division facts to 100
* Fourth Grade: Add and Subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm
* Fifth Grade: Multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm

In order to maintain this level of mastery, we are encouraging our students to practice their facts over the summer months. Students can continue to access the Fastt Math and Sumdog over the summer if they did not achieve mastery during the school year. Even practicing a little while riding in the car or waiting in line can be very helpful.
In addition, you may follow the link below in order to print out summer math practice packets for the grade level your child is entering. The link will provide your child with summer math practice designed to prevent summer learning loss. Both reinforcement and extension concepts are explored. Students will return completed packets to their classroom teacher next school year and will be recognized for their effort!
