March 2015 – Happy Spring & Parent Conferences

Updates from the Principal

March 2015

March 20, 2015

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Happy first day of spring! Hopefully, the snowfall today will be the last of the school year!

As you know, the trimester 2 report cards will be distributed to the students today. As you review your child’s progress, please be sure to access the numeracy and literacy report card companion documents that are located on the Trumbull Public Schools website: http://www.trumbullps.org/curriculum/curriculum-overview/report-card-companion.html. These companion documents will help you to better understand the expectations for the grade level. On the bottom of this webpage, you will also be able to view the archived Standards Based Report Card presentation. As always, if you have a question or concern regarding your child’s progress, please contact his/her teacher to set up a conference.

Our Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held next week. Afternoon conferences will be held on Tuesday, March 24th, resulting in a 1:00 p.m. early dismissal. Lunch will not be served on this day, so please be sure to pack a snack for your child. Evening Conferences will be held on Thursday, March 26th. Spring conferences were scheduled on an as needed basis or by parent request.

Students in grades 4 and 5 have begun taking the SBAC assessments this week. Our scholars have been doing a fine job and their feedback has been positive; some students have even shared they have enjoyed taking them! The SBAC assessments are given to students to measure their understanding of the Connecticut Core Standards. These standards focus on critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Please mark your calendars for a few upcoming events in March:

  • Wednesday, March 25th – Author Visit – David Adler.
  • Friday, March 27th – Friday Fun Day – Students will be wearing their favorite team jerseys or colors

To ensure your child’s continued success during the last trimester of school, it will be important to continue to encourage your child to read and practice math facts daily. Your commitment in helping your child to be prepared and ready to learn each day is greatly appreciated.
